Correspondence of Alexander Lindsay of Balcarres
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of eight letters of Alexander Lindsay, 6th Earl of Balcarres, afterwards 23rd Earl of Grawford, 5 to Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville and 3 to Robert Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville. 1788-1812. All letters are signed "Balcarres". Letters 4 and 5 are written from Jamaica, the others from Edinburgh, Balcarres, and Haigh Hall. Letter 1 is a draft or copy by the Earl of the last part of a letter only, about his brother "Mr Lindsay". With letter 5 is a duplicate also written by the Earl. Letter 7 carries a copy of the reply from Viscount Melville to the Earl of Balcarres, dated at the Admiralty. 9 October 1812.
