Willowbrad Road, c 1890-c 1910
This must show the construction of, presumably, the main road linking London Road and Portobello Road, and Duddingston Road with Milton Road West, coming round the north-east side of Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat. Handwritten title by Alasdair Geddes.
Ford at Roman Bridge, Musselburgh, c 1890-c 1910
In 1910, Musselburgh was quite separate from Edinburgh, with a rural area between it and the outer suburbs at the time. This scene was probably photographed as part of a study of communications and routes around the city. See Coll-1167/B/26/23. Handwritten by Alasdair Geddes.
Edinburgh Old Town Perspective, Engraved by John Kay 1779, c 1890-c 1910
Slightly unsatisfactory photograph of one corner of John Kay's engraving.
Edinburgh Old Town Perspective, Engraved by John Kay 1779, duplicate, c 1890-c 1910
Duplicate negative of Coll-1167/B/26/23/1 showing slightly unsatisfactory photograph of one corner of John Kay's engraving.
Edinburgh Model from the south east, c 1890-c 1910
Edinburgh model from the south-east. It is possible that this model was the first exhibit in the "Outline of a Survey of Edinburgh" in the 1911 "Cities and Town Planning Exhibition". If so, it was made by Paul Reclus (1858-1941) in true relief, i.e horizontal and vertical scales the same, showing various aspects of the city. Handwritten title by Alasdair Geddes.
Lines of Communication in and about Edinburgh, c 1890-c 1910
A glass plate negative showing an image of a plan showing the lines of communication in and about Edinburgh. The original plan was so badly crumpled within its folder that it is difficult to follow this imperfect print. It is a plan showing a series of proposed new roads in central Edinburgh. Dedicated to the Prince Consort. It must therefore date from before 1861, when he died. These plans, including two semi-circular terraces in Holyrood Park, were never carried out.
Directory Map - Vacant Lands, c 1890-c 1910
Bird's Eye view of the Forth, c 1890-c 1910
A glass plate negative showing another image of one of Frank C. Mears' drawings of a '"Bird's Eye View of the Forth". It is likely that the drawing was exhibit no 13 in the "Origins of Edinburgh" section of the 1911 Exhibition. Handwritten title by Mabel Barker.
Map - Forth and Lothians, c 1890-c 1910
A glass plate negative showing an image of a map of the "Forth and Lothians". This map has also been previously been entitled "Edinburghshire I". It is assumed the 'shire' title was written on the original maps (images of which are shown in Coll-1167/B/26/23/13 and 14). The glass plate negatives had at some time been taken out of their original envelopes and inserted into new envelopes, with no inscriptions.
