"Artful old lady, plausible and cute, a cracker, hypocritical, always a Bible in hand on Sundays, always dying. "Hazy". Siblings all dead. Husband died many years ago, a signalman. One son killed in the war. Dr confirms - softness and TB. [Male informant] says they are all simple. Mother has pernicious anaemia. They are all touched with simplicity."
