Tollcross looking east towards High Riggs. Compare image Coll-1167/B/27/8/2 showing the other end of the the same street looking west. The gable end with the Fry's advertisement marks the site of Goldberg's Store (as in 1991), abandoned since then. Handwritten title on the original envelope containing the corresponding glass plate negatives was written by R. Dykes.

By 1927 Waldie's Diary (no. 12) had become McClelland; the shop to the left (i.e the readers' left, no. 125) had become The Park Cafe, no. 127 a newsagent and no. 129 (boot repairing shop) a confectioner. The continuation southwards (left) of these low buildings may be seen in image Coll-1167/B/26/20/2 (mid right). Scope and Contents South part of Tron Square. Tron Square consists of two rectangular courts, each with buildings on three sides and the south side open. The North part, which is the first part to be approached from High Street via Old Assembly Close, is at a higher elevation, so that the flats in it overlook the backs of those in the South part, which is turn has now a view across the Cowgate to the tall buidlings in Guthrie Street and Chambers Street beyond. The whole complex (built 1899) has been renovated...
