Correspondence chiefly concerns the building, furnishing and equipping of the Protozoan Genetics Unit at the King's Buildings site in the south of Edinburgh.
Correspondence with Akio Miyake, 1971-1991
Contains a letter from Akio Miyake to Beale (dated 05/10/71) about a recent visit to Beale's laboratory and a letter from Beale to Miyake (dated 02/08/91) about Miyake's chapter on 'Fertilization and Sexuality.'
Correspondence with Jonathan Knowles, 1969-1980
The correspondence chiefly concerns Knowles' arrival at Beale's laboratory, the awarding of his PhD, his research at the Institute of Animal Genetics and his later work in France and Finland.
Correspondence with Richard Carter, 1967-1985
The correspondence spans Carter's appointment to Beale's research group, his ongoing research and his work at the National Institutes of Health, Maryland.
