Song entitled 'Laoi na h-Innge' and accompanying story, 16 September 1890
Scope and Contents
Song entitled 'Laoi na h-Innge' collected from Iain MacPhadruig [Iain mac Phà draig or John MacInnes, Stadhlaigearraidh/Stilligarry, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist] on 16 September 1890 beginning 'Fhuair mo lean[nan] mi n chadail, S mi ga[bha]il fad am muigh'. The song is composed of twenty-three lines. The accompanying story tells how a gentleman's daughter fell in love with a poor man's son but were not allowed to marry so they eloped. A reward was offered for her return. Her lover brought her home when she was dying and when they had both died they were buried in the same graveyard. A tree grew out of each grave and then their bodies were put into the same grave. The text has been scored through in pencil as if transcribed elsewhere and a note reads 'Send to C to [print]'.
