Song entitled 'Niall Odhar', 27 October 1873
Scope and Contents
Song entitled 'Niall Odhar' collected from Tormaid (Buidhe) Donullach [Norman MacDonald], age about 30 years, Cross [Cros, Nis/Ness, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis] beginning 'O Naile bhig 's na ho ro, 'S trua[gh] nach ro[bh] me fhi[n] 's Nial[l] O[dh]ar'. The accompanying story is unclear but seems to indicate that 'Clann ic 'Ile Bhir'eamh' lived in Eòropaidh/Eoropie and that they went to the mainland. Also that they did not kill Niall Odhar. The vocabulary note reads 'Rac = traveller round the mast, Biulain = Biorlain'.
