Prologue to Afforismi Ypocratis by an unknown author, 12th century

 Part
Identifier: MS 163/f. 72v

Contents

F. 72v contains an interesting preface to the text that follows, on ff. 73-118v, the Aphorisms of Hippocrates. The short preface on f. 72v blames the inaccuracy and obscurity of previous translations (into Latin, from the original Greek) of the Aphorisms. The text is only 24 lines, and begins with Afforismum ypocratis hujus edictionis causa exstitit... It ends with septima in acutis morbis.

Writing

The text of f. 72 is by a different hand than the rest of MS 163 (excluding the additions of the tables in the 14th and 15th centuries). The hand is also one from the 12th century, but much smaller than the one throughout the rest of the manuscript. The folio is also half the width of the rest of MS 163.
