 Item
Identifier: Coll-98/2/1

Scope and Contents

1st volume (of 4) of an impressive dictionary, published by the Highland Society of Scotland, Edinburgh, in 1828. This volume of the dictionary begins with A and finishes with Cn cnaimh reamhar. The volume is interleaved with systematic manuscript additions by Professor Donald Mackinnon. Professor Mackinnon also makes handwritten editorial annotations on printed pages of the dictionary, including corrections and deletions. The first printed page has printed on it in large upper case letters 'DICTIONARIUM SCOTO-CELTICUM.', though it is crossed out by hand, with a handwritten annotation 'A Dictionary of Scottish Gaelic', presumably by Professor Mackinnon. The first 13 pages are inserted handwritten annotations, and the printed dictionary begins on page 14.
