Decretales Gregorii IX, 2nd half of the 13th century
Scope and Contents
The first text of MS 300 is a copy of the very famous and influential 13th-century work of canon law, the Decretales Gregorii IX (Decretals of Pope Gregory IX) ordered by Pope Gregory IX, and put together by his chaplain and confessor, Raymond of Peñafort. As a very important text on Church law, the 'Decretales Gregorii IX' was the subject of many commentaries and glosses by later Church scholars.
The text starts on f. 1r with the words: 'Gregorius episcopus seruus seruorum dei dilectis filiis doctoribus et scolaribus uniuersis bon' commorantibus salutem et apostolicam benedictionem', and ends on f. 273v with 'homagium compelatur. Expliciunt decretales.'

- Book 2: starts on f. 65r. The last leaf of book 2 is missing.
- Book 3: starts on f. 122r.
- Book 4: starts on f. 185v.
- Book 5: starts on f. 209r.
An apparatus, ‘Gregorius est seruus. Imperator appellat se seruum..’, in a hand different from that of the text, extends only to f. 6r. After this the wide margins contain only occasional notes in ink and pencil.
