Title should read "Waverley from North Bridge". Old Jail (site of St. Andrew's House). Portico of the (old) Royal High School and the Burns Monument in the background. Coll-1167/B/26/12/5 the next one, is from a badly damaged negative plate, but must have shown the adjacent right hand view from this same point. Handwritten title by Alasdair Geddes.

The North British Hotel was completed in 1902, about eight years before the date of this photograph. Note the spire of the Tolbooth Church (Victoria Hall), the dome of the Bank of Scotland on The Mound, New College towers, and the Castle.

In both Coll-1167/B/26/12/7-8, note the Register House on the extreme left. Also, Waverley Market Hall - low building rising above glass roof of station. This was a large and fundamentally empty hall, used for shows of all kinds, circuses and sometimes dramatic entertainment. At certain times, there were flower beds...
