The collection is composed of: a folder containing a typescript copy of a diary of a journey from Italy to the Holy Land, covering the period 18 December 1850 to 6 September 1852; two microfilms of diaries covering the period 1849 to 1850; and five boxes of photographs showing scenes of Ireland, Paris, Switzerland, Rome, Pompei, Athens, Istanbul, Jerusalem, Cairo, Thebes, Abu Simbel, Nubia, Petra, and more.

The album had been in the possession of the Earl of Cawdor (John Frederick). It is dated 1859. The album is composed of photographic art reproduced on salted paper. Eight images are maritime in nature - vessels at sea - with waves and sails coloured in bluish / greyish tint, and are of drawings done by Willem Van de Velde the Younger (1633-1707).

The collection consists of photographs, negatives and lantern slides (3 slides only) showing the hospital at Ama Achara, patients and staff, missionaries, church workers, other areas in Eastern Nigeria including Calabar, and mission work in general; most of the photographs are from the 1920s-mid 1940s but there are some earlier ones of Mary Slessor; and there is also a printed article on the hospital (1937).
