Notes about Dun Othail, 17 October 1873
Notes about Dun Othail [Dùn Othail, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis] that it is a detached rock which overhangs the sea, is about two hundred feet high on teh sea side, has ruins on the top and is level with the land. He notes that it is 'Whilly impregnable except to guns.'
Notes about Gill odhar, September 1870
Notes probably collected from John Black, aged eighty-six, Killean, Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire about Gill odhar [Clach Gille Odhar] that it was the only place where there was an echo but that it was now broken. He also describes metal archaeological finds he found while making a drain at Aoine Port an Daimh in Achadun.

Notes for 2 lectures given in Dublin. Sir Archibald Geikie looked at the evolution of scenery around the British Isles. He looked particularly at those elements formed by erosion, such as river valleys, using many locations as examples. He also looked at the formation of tablelands and other geological features and how these have impacted on the people and society in the localities.
