Notebook containing a 6 page letter of Archibald Hepburn to James Cunningham, W. S. Letter dated 10 February 1850. Notebook also contains an 8 page list of insect specimens, to be given to Cunningham's son Alexander. The rest of the notebook is blank.
Laid into the back of the notebook is a cartography sketch of Calton Hill, from Professor John Fleming's natural science class, 1855.

These folios in MS 139 contain the popular text from 13th-century Italian canon, Lawrence of Aquilegia, on specifics of letter writing. In his texts, of which the Practica was most popular and well known, Lawrence pioneered the phatic element of writing. The copy of the Practicacontained on ff. 56r-67v of MS 139 begins with the words Universis tabellionibus bononie amicis et dominis karissimis...
