Scope and Contents

Alasdair Geddes' original title written on the containing envelope read "To Spring Valley Ter". Its special punctuation suggest, possibly, some sort of excursion or visit to Morningside, perhaps from the Grange. The pevious image, Coll-1167/B/26/22/6; certainly at least one of the children is shown in both photographs. Handwritten title by Alasdair Geddes.

This space was finally identified in February 1993 by Hector Black, a student in architecture. It is behind the building at 9 Victoria Street (formerly a hall, later a bazaar market). The windows on the right are those of the Central Library. Handwritten title by Alasdair Geddes. A print from this glass plate negative was included in the "Open Spaces as Gardens and Playgrounds" section of Geddes' replacement "Cities and Town Planning Exibition". See Coll-1167/B/24.

The shop front shows the name of "Hutchison, Registered Plumber and Sanitary Engineer" which is listed in the Edinburgh and Lothians Post Office Directory (1910) as being located at 73 Mary's Street.
