Scope and Contents

Song entitled 'Laoi Mhanuis' or 'Corag Fhinn us Mhanuis' [Comhrag Fheinn agus Mhanuis] Donul Mac a Phie [Donald MacPhee], smith, [Brèibhig/Breivig, Barraigh/Isle of Barra] beginning 'Ga be biodh [leime] laoidh, Eir an traigh tha siar fo dheas.' It is composed of one hundred and seventy six lines, some of which have been written transversely over the top of other text. MacPhee states that he heard the song from Iain mac Fhearchair or Iain Johnson ' A little old man who lived at Cille Bhara [Cille Bharra/Kilbar]. The text is written in ink and contains some annotations in pencil. The accompanying vocabulary note reads 'Conabhair = Dog Keeper Lothain = Chain between two dogs Bi do mhial choin eir lothain Ail Dall'.
