The first leaf of the oblong 8vo item of [60]pp. is headed 'Scottish Quadrilles'. It includes German and French examples as well as a couple of waltzes and a mazurka. Many of the tunes are initialled and are dated from October 1850 to April 1857, some with the location Wemyss. The volume was produced by M'Dowall, Greig and Wahler, lithographic and letterpress printers, Edinburgh. It has a coloured scrollwork cover.

Content Description

Manuscript notebook of Dr Thomas Charles Hope recording medical case histories. The constellation of Dr Hope, Dr Duncan, and Dr Rutherford together with the mention of patients being admitted "into the Infirmary" lead to the ascription of this being notes from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The Dr Duncan mentioned several times in the text is presumably Andrew Duncan (1773-1832), who founded the hospital.

Scope and Contents This is a manuscript notebook by Rear Admiral George John Malcolm, dated 1878-1881 and containing draft correspondence, speeches and descriptive accounts relating principally to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden ahead of the British occupation of Egypt in 1882. Since 1873, Malcolm had been in the Turkish services as Pasha, and was employed as Director General of the Abolition of the Slave Trade and Judge of the Slave Courts.
