Scope and Contents Note about a dun on Tarasaigh/Taransay giving its dimensions as seventeen yards in diameter and describing the remains of it as the foundations 'all a grassy mound' on the slope of a hill and how a narrow passge leads from the outside to the centre. It was said that Dùn Loch an Dùin could be seen from this dun so that it 'Must have been 100 f[ee]t high'. Carmichael notes that there is 'A lump of a hill betw[een] these two duns' and that Capt[ain] Thomas made a plan of the dun some years...

Note about archaeological sites around Loch Druidibeag/Loch Druidibeg, Tobha Beag/Howbeg, Sniseabhal/Snishival and Peighinn nan Aoireann/Peninerine, South Uist. Including the locations of Eilean an Ràna, Eilean an t-Sagairt and Dùn Altripeadh [Dùn Altabrug]. He states that Dùn Altabrug is roofed; that 'sornaichean' [kilns] are visible on Eilean na Cre'ich on Loch Eilean an t-Sagairt and at Gearr-sgeirean, Peninerine at low-tide a 'bota-moina' [vein of peat] six feet high can also be seen.

A fragment of a song is included beginning 'Thainic slauri dhu a nuas' and the title of another song [possibly the same song] 'Tha pairt an Eilean Bheagram dhiu', which Carmichael notes as being 'included in Carruther's edition of Boswells Tour'. He also notes that Clanranald seem to have lived in the castle before they went to Ormacleit [Ormaclete, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist] '&...

Scope and Contents

Note about Cilleandraist that it was situated at Lag a chlai [possibly Lag a Chlaidh, Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] close to the lake [Loch Baile a' Ghobhainn]. Bones and ancient ruins were found there and a well built over it. The rest of the note seems to indicate that sites belong to the church, Barcaldine [Campbell of Barcaldine] and Airds [Campbell of Airds].
