Story about church attendance, collected from Donald MacColl, brocair (fox hunter) [Glencreran, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] in which Captain Stewart and Reverend Mr Wrench forgot to send someone to take Donald to church. He said 'I rely upon my brother & upon God who does not forget the poor for the rich'.

Scope and Contents Story about churches built by Calum Cille [St Columba] that when he first arrived in Scotland he built a church in Uist [Uibhist] but he could still see Ireland from there so he pulled it down. He then went to the Isle of Skye [An t-Eilean Sgitheanach] and built a church there but could not see Ireland from it. It was the same in Aoi [Ì Chaluim Chille/Iona, Earra Ghàidheal, Argyllshire], which were the only two places from which he coudl not see Ireland. Text has been scored out as if...

Story about Clach an Teampuil [Nis/Ness, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis] that sick people would travel to use it as a pillow and so be healed of their sickness. It states that people would travel from Skye and that 'Nicolson fr[om] Stornoway' was cured by the stone.

Story about Clach Mhòr na Gleannan [Barraigh/Isle of Barra], that it was thrown by a Lochlannach [Viking] at his sweetheart from Fuidey [Fuidheigh/Fuday]. When it struck her, it drove her into the ground and there is now a large boulder stuck in the earth there. The Lochlannach 'did'nt (sic) wish to kill her but just throw this as a spitheag at her'.

Scope and Contents Story about Clach na Cabaig that it was 'at Temple in the isle' [Teampull, Bernera Isle, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] noting the good milk yield of the cows there. If the stone was taken over to the village at night it was found in its rightful place in in the morning. It was once stolen by an Irishman. Story about Cladh na h-Inid [Cladh na h-Annaid] and the house at Loch Nell [Loch nan Eala, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] that Cladh na h-Inid is a stone circle of '17 x 19 y[ar]ds' that there was a grave cist there and also that it was the site of a battle between natives and the Irish. Also states that Alastair MacColla had to put the house at Loch Nell on fire but the fire would not burn because the 'laogh alla' was visiting.

It reads 'Clann Andain near Butt [of Lewis] [Rubha Robhanais, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis] had to carry in 1 crao[bh] [choirc] (dias) A thimble they had car[r]y in[crat]. 6 aft[er] this. They were all out Siod ard siod Clann And- man t-sail - so proud'.

Story about 'cli[ar]-sheanachain' probably collected from Duncan MacNiven, retired schoolmaster, Airds Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire that when twelve cliar-sheanachain [itinerant band/sorners] came to Iain Beag Mac a Chombaich [John Colquhoun?] that he had to kill 'a stirk a calf or cow'. Scope and Contents Tale concerning Coinneach nan Tarbh and the Luideag, probably told by John Pearson or John MacPherson, cottar, Ceann Tangabhal/Kentangaval, Barraigh/Barra. Coinneach caught the Luideag, the Barra equivalent of the Glaistig or Bean-nighidh, at a stream and would not release her until she promised to herd his cattle safely for a year and a day.
