The song has twenty-two verses and was transcribed from [field] notebook number I, page 17. Two additions have been made to the text in pencil.

Tormod, for whom the lament was written, was a young nobleman who died of yellow fever while in France. Text has been scored through as if to indicate it has been transcribed elsewhere.
